Useability:
W3C Standards
This site adheres to the W3C web standards for both HTML 4.01 and CSS. What that means is that the Parkinson's website was designed to maximumise the usability for the greatest number of web users.
Screen Resolution
Parkinson's website is best viewed with screen resolution of 1024x768. To adjust your screen resolution, please follow the following instructions:
Windows Version 98, XP users only:
- Right click on your Desktop, then go to Properties
- Click on Settings
- Click and drag the Screen Resolution arrow to 1024x768
- Click OK
- Accept the changes by clicking Yes when prompted
Macintosh (OSX):
- Click the Apple Menu
- Select System Preference and then Display
- Change resolution to 1024x768
- Close System Preference

Javascript has been used for form validation, as well as other non-essential functions through out the Parkinson's Victoria website. If Javascript is disabled on your browser, you will still be able to browse through the core of our website, but with limited features. For maximum enjoyment, please enable Javascript on your web browser.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x:
- Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
- Click the Security tab.
- Click Custom Level in Security Level for this Zone.
- Scroll down to Scripting, near the bottom of the list.
- Under Active Scripting, choose Enable.
- Click OK to leave Security Settings. Click OK to leave Internet Options.
Please note, if you have Windows XP SP2 installed on your PC, you might be prompted with a security warning message. Simply click on the yellow security tab and click on Allow Blocked Content and then Yes.
Mozilla Firefox and Netscape 8.x:
- In Netscape 8.x or Firefox, from the Tools menu, select Options
- In Netscape, in the list on the left, select Site Controls.
In Firefox, in the list on the left, select Web Features.
- On the right, check (to enable) the boxes next to both Enable JavaScript and Enable Java.
CSS
Parkinson's website replies on CSS for formating and styling, but the core of the website can still be browsed with CSS disabled. For maximum enjoyment, please enable CSS on your web browser.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x:
- Select Internet Options on the Tools menu.
- Select the General tab and activate the Accessibility button at the bottom right.
- Uncheck the following boxes:
- Ignore color on Web pages
- Ignore font style on Web pages
- Ignore font sizes on Web pages
- Click OK to leave Accessibility Settings. Click OK to leave Internet Options.
Mozilla Firefox and Netscape 8.x:
- Select Page Style from View menu.
- Make sure Basic Page Style is selected.

Breadcrumb (requires JavaScript)
'Breadcrumb' is a description of the trail you took to get where you are, it is used to help you navigate the site. For example, a simple text breadcrumb such as Home / About the Parkinson's / Living with Parkinson's shows that you arrived at this page through clicking Home, then About the Parkinson's, and finally Living with Parkinson's.
Search
Parkinson's Victoria website utilises the Google™ seach engine to help you find the information you want. You can choose to search through the Parkinson's Victoria website. To start a seach simply type in the key words in the text box and hit the Search button.
Font resize (requires JavaScript)
Parkinson's Victoria website has a built in font resize feature which allows you to either increase or decrease the size of the text in the website. The resize feature will affect both the navigation and the content of the website, allowing those with visual impairement to customise the website to suit your eyes.
Print
All pages on the Parkinson's Victoria website are print friendly. This means the system will automatically cut out the nagivation and other non-essential areas when you hit the print button. You can use the built-in print preview feature of your browser by selecting Print Preview under the File menu.
For your convenience, a print button is always located at the bottom of each page (requires JavaScript).
Site Map
The site map is a hierarchical diagram of the all the pages on this website, starting with the home page at the top. It helps you navigate through the Parkinson's Victoria website by displaying the entire structure.
